Dr. Russell offers a wide variety of treatment and assessment services. She has experience in treating and evaluating individuals with a variety of clinical conditions and presenting problems, including: depression/depressive disorders, anxiety/anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD), adjustment to life transitions, stress management, psychotic disorders (e.g., schizophrenia spectrum disorders, schizoaffective disorder), and gender dysphoria. Dr. Russell also provides assessment and treatment services to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Dr. Russell works with individuals ages 15 years and older. She has experience working with individuals of many races, sexual orientations, gender identities, socioeconomic statuses, and backgrounds. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, in the public and private sector. She also has experience working with veterans and current military members.
In providing therapy to her clients, Dr. Russell uses a collaborative approach and a wide variety of techniques, typically from a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) approach. CBT has been extensively researched, and shown to be effective in treating a variety of disorders. CBT assists patients in identifying the relationships among their thoughts, feelings, and actions, and in making changes to beliefs, ideas or self-statements which may not be serving them well. Dr. Russell also provides treatment for trauma-related disorders, including PTSD, using evidence-based techniques including cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and prolonged exposure (PE), and works with individuals who have experienced a variety of traumatic experiences, including sexual assault, intimate partner violence, military sexual trauma (MST), combat, and interpersonal violence.
Dr. Russell works with each of her clients throughout the therapeutic process to identify treatment goals unique to the individual, and assist clients in working toward those goals. For many clients, therapy may be short-term endeavor (6 to 12 sessions); for others, therapy may last longer.
Dr. Russell provides diagnostic evaluations (i.e., to determine if an individual has a mental health diagnosis), and to provide recommendations regarding any necessary treatment. These evaluations typically consist of psychological testing, a clinical interview, and review of any relevant documents or other information (e.g., prior medical records). She also has experience in conducting C&P (Compensation & Pension) evaluations for veterans seeking disability benefits for mental health condition(s) (e.g., PTSD), and has provided these evaluations both within, and outside of, the VA healthcare system.
